    Organic whole vanilla beans ground to a fine powder - organically grown in Indonesia, the incredible taste and aroma is sure enchant and seduce.

    Vanilla Powder is harvested from a climbing vine, which bears orchid flowers from the genus Vanilla. The name vanilla is derived from the Spanish word, which means little pod.

    In Pre-Columbian times, the Mesoamericans from Papantla, Mexico were the first documented civilization to have domesticated vanilla from the plant. They even took to worshipping the goddess of the vanilla plant, in celebration of its enchanting flavour.

    It was only in the 1500s that this highly valued and sought after spice was introduced to Europe by Hernan Cortes. Prior to that, Vanilla was largely unknown to the Old World.

    Our Vanilla Powder has an undeniably rich, warm and intriguing fragrance. The flavour can be described as sweet, creamy and smooth. It’s aromatic warmth offers comfort with the same bold flavour as the vanilla pod.

    Species: Our Vanilla Powder is from the planifolia species, which is regarded for its classical, well rounded vanilla flavour and aroma.

    Grade: Gourmet Grade or Grade A. This grade means the beans are oily and moist and have a deep dark colour without defects.

    How to use:
    Just a sprinkle of this sweet-scented ground bean offers a delicious addition to your baking, teas, coffees, spiced chai lattes, smoothies and desserts. We particularly love adding it to our Loving Earth Hot Chocolate.

    Also try adding it to your porridge, yoghurts or Buckinis.

    Or why not try it in a Tomato Pasta Sauce - adds a depth of flavour you will enjoy.

    Growing and Processing:
    Growing and processing vanilla into a powder form is a delicate procedure that takes up to 1 year to complete.

    The growing process begins with the pollination of the vanilla orchid flowers. Over the next 10 months, the vanilla beans will grow until they reach maturity. At this point, they are still green in colour and are ready to harvest.

    Once the vanilla beans are picked, our growers cure the vanilla for another 2 months to develop the vanillin content. This portion of the process is vital in bringing out the quality of the aroma and flavour in our powder.

    The vanilla beans are soaked in hot water (65 degrees Celcius) for 3 minutes before undergoing a fermentation process. During this process, the beans are stored in wooden crates for 2 days.

    The beans are sun dried for 3 hours each day over a period of 3 weeks, until it reaches its optimum moisture content before it is hand sorted and ground into a fine powder.

    What is it?
    Vanilla's rich, warm and intriguing fragance appeals to both men and women. Its aromatic warmth may offer comfort and nurturance for feelings of tension, anger and frustration.

    A goddess of the vanilla plant is worshipped in Indonesia, Mexico and Papua New Guinea. Vanilla is a climbing vine bearing flowers having both male and female organs.

    Papua New Guinea: When we can, we source vanilla from Papua New Guinea, where it is grown organically in the highlands. We're proud to support our international neighbours in their efforts to grow quality organic produce.

    Mexico: Only in Mexico does a natural pollination of the vanilla plant occur; grown anywhere else, it must be hand pollinated. This vanilla is organically grown by a Totonucan indigenous grower association in Papantla, Mexico. Papantla is said to be the home of vanilla, the place where it was first domesticated by the Totonucans.
