The Chocolate, the Ingredients and Production:

Does Pana Chocolate use fairly traded ingredients?
All of our major ingredients are fair trade branded, except for our coconut oil which while not being fair trade branded is produced under fair trade conditions (small plantation growers working under fair trade prices and conditions).

At Pana Chocolate we believe in sourcing all our raw materials from their respective countries of origin, helping to ensure that the indigenous communities where the crops are grown are provided with an ethical and sustainable source of income.

All our ingredients are raw, premium, certified organic and sourced from reputable growers and suppliers. As such our ingredients command a premium price, and we work closely with all our suppliers, and we are confident that everyone involved in production and supply is receiving higher than market price for their goods and services.

Where are your ingredients sourced?
Our cacao is certified organic and fair trade, sourced from cooperatives in Bolivia and the Dominican Republic.
Our cacao butter is certified organic, cold pressed and fair trade from Peru.
Our coconut oil is extra virgin, cold pressed, certified organic and is sourced from the Philippines.
Our dark agave nectar is raw, certified organic and fairly traded from Mexico.
Our carob in certified organic and fair trade and is sourced from Spain.
Our cinnamon is certified organic and is sourced from Sri Lanka.
Is Pana Chocolate packaging made from recycled materials?
Our boxes are made from 100% recycled material. Our foil wrapping is fully biodegradable. All our inks are 100% vegetable based.

How is Pana Chocolate best stored?
Your chocolate should be stored in a cool, dark place preferably below 20 degrees centigrade. Due to the low melting point of the coconut butter, your chocolate will become soft if stored in temperatures above 20 degrees centigrade.

Your chocolate can be stored in the fridge, the quality and texture will not be affected. As Pana Chocolate contains only raw ingredients, it will not ‘whiten’ like a lot of commercially produced chocolate does (this is ‘sugar bloom’ caused by sugar reacting with the moisture). When storing your chocolate in the fridge, be sure to keep it away from any strong odours, as chocolate and cacao absorb odours.

Should you receive a chocolate package from us that is warm to touch, do not open straight away, but transfer to a refrigerator for an hour or two before opening.

What percentage cacao is Pana Chocolate?
Our cacao percentage varies from 50% to 80%. Please refer to individual flavours for details.

Allergy Information:
What is the nutritional content of Pana Chocolate?

You can find our nutritional panels on the product pages for each individual flavour.

Is Pana Chocolate suitable for diabetics?
Our chocolate is low GI and is sweetened with raw, organic dark agave nectar. Being low GI, when eaten in moderation it is suitable for people with diabetes, however it is always best to check with your health practitioner. A suggested 15g serving of Pana Chocolate contains on average around 3-4g of low GI sugar.
Does Pana Chocolate contain gluten?
There is no gluten in our chocolate.

Are all Pana Chocolate bars vegan friendly?
Yes. All our chocolate bars are free of animal products including dairy.

Does Pana Chocolate contain caffeine?
The cacao bean contains only minute amounts of caffeine, but it does contain theobromine (a similar alkaloid to caffeine) which is far less stimulating to the central nervous system than caffeine. Most people would not be affected by these small amounts in a typical serving of chocolate, however if you are sensitive to caffeine, probably best to avoid cacao.
