Rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, theanine (amino acid), polyphenols, antioxidants (ECGC-Catechins) , minerals and fibre - green tea powder is well known for its health benefits. Ideal as a daily cup of tea.

The advantage of consuming green tea powder is that it provides 100% of the health benefits found in Green Tea leaf. When teabags or loose teas are steeped, only 5% to 10% of the nutrients naturally found in the tea end up in the cup. Most of the nutrients are not water-soluble. The vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre end up being thrown out with the tea leaves.

With green tea leaf powder, the powder dissolves in the water, where you consume all the leaves so the complete nutrient profile of the leaf is retained.

Is Green Tea Leaf Powder the same as Matcha?
They are slightly different products with similar uses where Green Tea Leaf Powder is a more economical alternative for every day green tea enjoyment. Both are essentially unfermented green tea leaves which are ground to a powder form. The health benefits maybe similar with some purporting that Matcha may have marginally more antioxidants due to less friction in the grinding process and the slow growing of the crop.

- Green Tea Leaf Powder is usually made from faster grinding of the whole leaf which may contain the veins and stems. Therefore it is slightly heavier and darker in colour. Still wonderful in smoothies frothing well, cakes, puddings, jellies and any other mixes you love to enjoy. Whole leaf so the full health benefits of the whole food is retained.

- Matcha is created by lightly steaming young tea leaves which may have been shade grown to slow down growing, thereby increasing antioxidants. The leaves are then dried, with veins and stems removed to then be finally stoneground into a fine powder with various grades. This retains the bright green colour and the fine powder froths into a fluffy foam with the correct whisking technique. This process is labour intensive and reflects in the price. Soon to come - Certified Organic Matcha Powder.
