Nasanta Magnesium Deodorant for men and women can be safely used in the long term because it's free from aluminium, fragrance, parabens, ethyl alcohol, and other harmful bio-accumulative ingredients. A slightly alkaline magnesium formula, simply neutralises body odour. Any magnesium absorbed transdermally will be beneficial.

Neutralises body odour:
Perspiration is not responsible for body odour; bacterial organic acids are. Nasanta is alkaline, with a pH in the range of 9 to 10, and creates a basic local skin environment that inhibits bacterial growth and neutralises these acids. Your body needs to sweat to cool down and detox, but doesn’t need to smell. Nasanta does what’s natural and lets the body perspire, but neutralises the smell.

Free from aluminium:
Whether aluminium is or is not responsible for breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, you want to be on the safe side and rule it out completely. Nasanta is free from any form of Aluminum, whether Aluminium Zirconium or Potassium Alum or Ammonium Alum (three very soluble forms of Aluminium and the active ingredients of the rock crystal deodorants), Aluminium Chlorohydrate or Aluminium Chlorohydroxide.

Formulation:
Nasanta was formulated with the help of a former Senior Formulation Scientist at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) with 35 years experience developing cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The formula was designed with simplicity in mind, and the least amount of ingredients possible in order to reduce ingredient interaction.

Preservation:
Properly preserving a cosmetic is not an option. If a cosmetic is not properly preserved, dangerous bacteria, moulds and fungi can fester in the product and invade and colonise your body through the skin.

The question is not if the preservative is natural or synthetic, there are natural poisons as well as synthetic medicines. The question is if the preservative is safe for the body in the long term at the necessary concentration for it to work and scientifically proven to be effective as a broad spectrum, anti-microbial.

Nasanta® Magnesium Deodorant’s main ingredient is Magnesium Hydroxide, an anti-microbial in itself. However, when we put a preservative-free version of the formula to the test, it did not meet our quality standards. The formula had to be strengthened, ideally with a natural alternative.

But in consultation with Dr. Jon J. Kabara, former professor of Biochemistry and Pharmacology at Michigan State University, and author of “Preservative-free and Self-preserving Cosmetic and Drug Products”, we learned that natural preservatives do not work at safe concentrations.

We tested many variants of the formula, even with Lauricidin®, a natural product developed by Dr. Kabara, but they didn’t pass the preservative efficacy tests. In the end, we decided to strengthen the formula with a low concentration of 0.293% Phenoxyethanol and 0.007% Methylisothiazolinone.

These preservatives are deemed by the US Cosmetic Ingredient Review and the European Cosmetic Directive Annex VI to be safe at concentrations under 1% by w/w, are not bio-accumulative, and in combination allow for a concentration 4 times lower compared to using each preservative alone.

An effective natural preservative, both safe for the body and proven to be effective as a broad spectrum anti-microbial is the holy grail of the cosmetics industry and we are actively looking for it.
